Animal Experiments (No. 2)

EDM number 2008 in 1992-93, proposed by Tony Banks on 13/05/1993.

That this House expresses its dismay that over three million animals are killed in British laboratories every year, the majority without the use of anaesthesia at any stage; notes that the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 does more to protect the research community than the animals in whose name it is written; further notes the increase in calls for the abolition of vivisection from bodies within the medical profession; acknowledges the enormous public support for the campaign to stop animal experiments; and requests the Government to do all it can to speed up the process of their elimination.
