Welsh Consumer Council
EDM number 1990 in 1992-93, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 10/05/1993.
That this House condemns the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry for their failure to ensure that prominent Conservative Party politicians, democratically rejected by the people of Wales, are not undemocratically re-imposed on the people of Wales, who made their feelings known through the ballot-box; condemns in particular, the election of Beata Brookes, former Conservative Member of the European Parliament for North Wales from 1979 until defeated in 1989, as Chairman of the Wales area of the Conservative and Unionist Party, while at the same time holding the office of Chairman of the Welsh Consumer Council, a post which she has already besmirched for two years while simultaneously holding office as Vice-Chairman at the Welsh Conservative Party, in spite of many requests from the Welsh Consumer Council to choose between her political career and her said paid chairmanship of the Welsh Consumer Council, wherein political neutrality has always been prized as a prerequisite of promoting the consumer's interests without fear or favour.
This motion has been signed by a total of 55 MPs.
