Child Migrants Scheme

EDM number 1976 in 1992-93, proposed by Alan Meale on 10/05/1993.

That this House sends its congratulations to Margaret Humphreys on being awarded the Order of Australia by the Australian Government in recognition of her work on behalf of child migrants; welcomes this recognition as an acceptance of the importance of the work of the Child Migrant Trust, a body specifically established to work amongst former child migrants, particularly those sent to sections of the Commonwealth; sees such acknowledgement as fully indicating the support given by individuals and organisations, in particular Nottinghamshire County Council, to the work of the trust; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to fund fully the work of this excellent body, which currently is trying to work on behalf of hundreds of thousands of people whose lives have been affected as a result of British government policy.
