Infertility Treatment

EDM number 1974 in 1992-93, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 10/05/1993.

That this House notes that one in six couples is infertile and that availability of treatment across the country is uneven, leading to gross unfairness in meeting the needs of infertile couples; further notes that in most district health authorities and regional health boards the full range of treatments is not made available to those requiring medical assistance to produce children; and consequently calls on the Government to direct all district health authorities and regional health boards to ensure that they offer a full range of treatments, recognising that for many causes of infertility modern methods of assisted conception are often the most cost-effective.
