General Election In Pakistan
EDM number 1945 in 1992-93, proposed by George Galloway on 05/05/1993.
That this House welcomes the calling of general elections in Pakistan, believing that the democratic choice of the people of Pakistan is the only way out of the country's economic, social and constitutional crisis; recalls the fabricated basis for the removal of the government of Benazir Bhutto and the subsequent massive electoral fraud involved in her defeat at the last general election; and calls upon the President of Pakistan to accept a Commonwealth role in the supervision of the election, believing that only if the polls are observed to be conducted in a free, fair and democratic manner will the necessary international credibility and confidence be achieved, and a new beginning made to the building of a better future for the long suffering people of Pakistan.
