Conduct Of Welsh Parliamentary Labour Party

EDM number 1939 in 1992-93, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 04/05/1993.

That this House deplores the manner in which the Welsh Parliamentary Labour Party group put forward their own five nominees to represent the Welsh Parliamentary Party on the Council of the National Library of Wales; notes that the Welsh Parliamentary Party is a body of which all 38 honourable Members from the Welsh constituencies are members; regrets that the Welsh Labour honourable Members saw fit, after the General Election to confirm five of their members on the Council of the Welsh National Library without holding a meeting of the all-party Welsh Parliamentary Party; condemns Labour's failures over a 12 months period to rectify this arrogant mis-use of power; asserts that this sadly typifies the attitude of the Labour Party in the South Wales Valley where they appear to believe they have a divine right to rule and to take up each and every position on nominal bodies exclusively for their own members with all the incumbent dangers of one party democracy; and calls on the Welsh electorate to teach the Labour Party a salutory lesson regarding their contempt for democratic procedures by an early and sharp defeat at the ballot box.
