The Situation In Cambodia
EDM number 1881 in 1992-93, proposed by Chris Mullin on 28/04/1993.
That this House expresses its deep concern at the deteriorating situation in Cambodia; acknowledges its commitment to peace in that country; urges decisive action to safeguard the population of Cambodia against the growing threat posed by the Khmer Rouge; requests the United Nations to retain a presence in Cambodia on an indefinite basis subject to agreement with the duly elected government; urges the immediate release of funds pledged for rehabilitation at last year's Tokyo Conference; requests of the United Nations that the results of the forthcoming election are not announced until a declaration can be made as to the validity of the electoral process; calls for the establishment of a commission under the International Court of Justice to prosecute Pol Pot and the historic Khmer Rouge leadership for the crime of genocide; and calls for trade sanctions against Thailand to be considered if that country continues to encroach on Cambodian sovereignty and to facilitate trade in timber across the Thai/Cambodia border.
