International Workers Memorial Day
EDM number 1872 in 1992-93, proposed by David Marshall on 27/04/1993.
That this House notes the growing support in Scotland for the idea of 28th April being marked as International Workers Memorial Day, as is already the case in Canada and the United States of America; commends the Scottish Trades Union Congress for highlighting the fact that in accidents at work in 1991 in the United Kingdom, 538 people were killed, and one and a half million injured - 30,684 seriously, and that two million suffer from work-related illnesses; and supports the campaign to mark 28th April 1994 in a big way as a day for remembering all those who have suffered death, injury or illness through their work, and to renew determination to eliminate all accidents and illness from the workplace.
