MIDWIFERY AT GUY'S AND LEWISHAM HOSPITAL TRUST

That this House is shocked to learn of the plans within Guy's and Lewisham Hospital Trust to withdraw and severely reduce the numbers of highly skilled midwives within the Guy's Hospital Maternity Unit; believes that the full skills of midwives should be utilised to ensure a full choice for women in deciding what care they receive throughout pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period, enabling women to choose a home birth should they wish; and therefore calls on the Secretary of State for Health to instruct the Guy's and Lewisham Hospital Trust to strengthen and not weaken maternity services, which offer a full choice to women, and withdraw their proposals to reduce the number of skilled midwives.
