CLOSURE OF REGIONAL CHILDREN'S RENAL WARD AT SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL
EDM number 187 in 1992-93, proposed by Dawn Primarolo on 04/06/1992.
That this House is appalled to hear of the closure on 18th June of the Children's Renal Ward by the Southmead Health Care Trust; notes that the reason given for the closure is the overspend of ú80.000 on paediatric services by the hospital, but is shocked that no financial assessment has been made of the savings likely from the closure; further notes that the nearest regional unit for children with renal disease or needing renal surgery is Birmingham or London; calls on the Government to intervene immediately to prevent the inevitable decline in both quality and quantity of services available to children and instruct the Southmead Health Care Trust to seek the savings necessary by a review of the car leasing provisions and salary scales for senior managers.
