SECRETARY OF STATE FOR NORTHERN IRELAND'S COMMENTS IN THE GERMAN NEWSPAPER DIE ZEIT
EDM number 1852 in 1992-93, proposed by John D Taylor on 26/04/1993.
That this House, recognising the damage done by the Anglo-Irish Agreement to the confidence of the majority of people in Northern Ireland, the resulting increase in loyalist terrorism, the increasing alienation of the majority community and the political deadlock in Northern Ireland, is concerned at the impact, and its potential for damaging any chances of political progress, of the interview by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in the German Newspaper, Die Zeit, in which he is reported as saying 'a settlement out of the present political talks would affect British sovereignty over Northern Ireland and that Her Majesty's Government would want to release Northern Ireland from the United Kingdom'.
This motion has been signed by a total of 3 MPs.
