Water Privatisation In Scotland And Northern Ireland

EDM number 1828 in 1992-93, proposed by Andrew Welsh on 22/04/1993.

That this House notes the comments of the Minister of State at the Northern Ireland Office and 'it will not be possible, for technical reasons, to privatise the water industry in the lifetime of this Parliament', Official Report, 20th April 1993, column 296; is delighted that the people of Northern Ireland have been spared the damaging effects of water privatisation; believes that the Government, having backed off from water privatisation in Northern Ireland, would be committing political suicide if it proceeds with plans to privatise or franchise Scotland's water; and calls on the Secretary of State for Scotland to recognise the overwhelming public opposition to the sell off of Scotland's water and announce that Scottish water services will continue in local authority ownership, control and delivery.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs, 2 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
