Court Victory Over Nintendo
EDM number 1787 in 1992-93, proposed by Nigel Griffiths on 19/04/1993.
That this House congratulates Richard and David Darling of Codemasters computer games for their victory in the United States Supreme Court over computer giant Nintendo; regrets that both Nintendo and Sega adopt restrictive practices to keep the price of their games at unjustifiable levels; calls on Nintendo to give United Kingdom consumers the same rights to hire their equipment that United States law gives American consumers and to cease using legal threats against United Kingdom shops to prevent them from hiring out their games; calls on Sega to review their high licence fee for hiring out Sega games; and urges the President of the Board of Trade to investigate Sega's and Nintendo's anti-consumer practices and take the appropriate action.
