Reductions In British Rail Kent Link Services
EDM number 1774 in 1992-93, proposed by Jim Dowd on 15/04/1993.
That this House notes the damaging cuts to British Rail Kent Link services due to be implemented from 17th May, including peak hour trains as well as reduced Sunday services from half hourly to hourly; believes that such reductions will not help to improve local economies and will greatly inconvenience the travelling public who will be forced to use road transport thereby increasing environmental pollution through extra traffic, noise and damaging car fumes; feels that given recent fare increases of 6.5 per cent. and staff cuts at stations, it is unreasonable for passengers to pay extra money for a worse service; and therefore calls on the Government to allow British Rail to rescind the proposed cut in services in order to maintain services, value for money and the quality of life for people living in Kent and South East London.
