PROFIT FOR NISSAN'S SUNDERLAND PLANTS

That this House congratulates Nissan in Washington for its achievement in 1991, for recording a profit of ú18.4 million, 12 months ahead of schedule, which represents a major achievement for Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) which did not build its first car until July 1986; is aware that planned production of 100,000 Primeras was increased to 124,663 to meet strong demand from the Continent, compared with 76,241 cars produced in 1990; further congratulates Nissan on its fine export achievement last year, when 90 per cent. of production was exported; notes the company was recently awarded the Queen's Award for Export Achievement; praises the efforts of all involved in the plant; and calls upon the President of the Board of Trade to publicly recognise the contribution of Nissan to the North East economy, in particular, and the country's in general.
