Privatisation Of State Pensions Record Keeping
EDM number 1758 in 1992-93, proposed by Nicholas Brown on 01/04/1993.
That this House condemns the decision of the Secretary of State for Social Security to seek tenders from private companies worldwide for the inputting of data relating to British state pensions; notes with concern that the potential bidders include companies operating in the Philippines and paying wage rates of 38 pence per hour; believes that insufficient consideration has been given to the scale of the change, the lack of private sector expertise, the resources involved, the question of confidentiality and the consequences for Britain's present and future pensioners if the private contractors default on their obligations; believes that the administration of the state pensions should remain in the public sector and directly accountable to Parliament; and congratulates the northern region's Sunday newspaper, the Sunday Sun, for highlighting and campaigning on this important matter.
