Care In The Community

That this House, whilst welcoming the implementation of the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990, expresses its grave concern that inadequate funding will lead to cuts in services to the elderly and vulnerable and that the broken promise to drug and alcohol units to safeguard their funds could cause many of them to close, thus creating problems for health care in the future; further notes that the Government appears to be encouraging local authorities not to assess the full extent of a person's needs unless all those needs are able to be met; and calls upon the Government to review its funding arrangements with a view to increasing the amount available for care in the community and to set up a system to monitor the services provided by local authorities.
