Funding Of Local Government
EDM number 1746 in 1992-93, proposed by Llew Smith on 31/03/1993.
That this House welcomes the Guardian's exposure of the appalling effects of the public expenditure cuts on local authorities' ability to continue to provide essential social services; believes the estimated cuts amounting to at least ú500 million will lead to widespread hardship with the closure of old people's homes and increased charges for home helps, school meals and other essential services for the disabled and poor who most require such services and will lead to further job losses; and therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government to re-institute the proper level of resources to local government.
