Persecution Of Christian Copts In Egypt
EDM number 1719 in 1992-93, proposed by David Alton on 30/03/1993.
That this House welcomes the visit of President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and the reaffirmation of good British-Egyptian relations, but is deeply concerned at the continuing attacks against the Christian Coptic community by Islamic fundamentalists and the discrimination against the Copts in education, the media, employment and religious freedom; and urges the British Government to raise these issues directly with the President of Egypt and his government, calling upon them to ensure that all persecution and discriminatory practices against the Egyptian Coptic community are stopped immediately and that adequate state protection is provided.
