Maternity Services In Glasgow

That this House deplores the decision of Greater Glasgow Health Board to delay progress on the building of a new maternity hospital at the Royal Infirmary, especially since Stobhill Maternity Unit was closed following undertakings that patients would be treated at the Royal Infirmary; further deplores the continuing uncertainty over Rutherglen Maternity Hospital's future; notes that Rottenrow and Queen Mother hospitals are in poor condition yet will have to continue in service as long as replacements are lacking; rejects any proposal to concentrate maternity hospital care on any one site; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government and Greater Glasgow Health Board to recall that for many decades Glaswegians have had the benefit of reasonably accessible, highly regarded maternity hospitals to the benefit of mothers, babies and their families, and expects no less as the twenty-first century approaches.
