Foreign Fishing Vessels In UK Waters
EDM number 168 in 1992-93, proposed by Brian Wilson on 03/06/1992.
That this House calls on the Lord Advocate to give urgent consideration to the Stornoway Sheriff Court judgement which appears to uphold the view that foreign fishing vessels can fish uncontrolled within United Kingdom waters, so long as they have entered these waters solely for the purpose of fishing; notes that a similar judgement in 1983 does not appear to have led to any legislative action to close this massive loophole in the law; and requests an urgent statement from the Government on the measures which they now propose to take to prevent the free access of foreign fishing vessels to United Kingdom territorial waters.
