Representation Of Cornwall At European Parliament
EDM number 1677 in 1992-93, proposed by Alex Salmond on 24/03/1993.
That this House notes the current proposals to allocate six additional European parliamentary seats to the United Kingdom; regrets that there has been no attempt by European constituency boundary formulators to respect the historic boundaries of Cornwall to date; believes that Cornwall meets the requirement for special geographical considerations identified in the European Assembly Elections Act 1978 on the grounds of both her distinct Celtic history and culture and the economic situation west of the Tamar; and calls on the Government, in consultation with the appropriate mechanism selected, to determine the boundaries of new European Parliamentary constituencies to secure that Cornwall is treated as one entity in the boundary re-organisation process by allocating one of the six additional seats to Cornwall exclusively.
This motion has been signed by a total of 8 MPs.
