Search And Rescue Flight - Raf Leuchars (No. 5)

EDM number 1656 in 1992-93, proposed by Menzies Campbell on 23/03/1993.

That this House regrets the decision of the Ministry of Defence to discontinue search and rescue services from RAF Leuchars with effect from 1st April in spite of the overwhelming case for retention supported by the whole community of North East Fife; acknowledges with gratitude the skill and courage of the officers and men of 22 Squadron and their predecessors who have provided search and rescue from RAF Leuchars since 1955 and to whose professionalism and daring many people owe their lives; and condemns the decision to withdraw search and rescue service from RAF Leuchars as short sighted and inevitably bound to reduce level of safety available in the area presently served from Leuchars.
