Police Force Amalgamations

EDM number 1648 in 1992-93, proposed by Alex Carlile on 19/03/1993.

That this House notes with concern the speculation that the Home Office is considering police force amalgamations according to criteria based on the size of the forces; recognises the cost efficient and high quality service provided by many of the smaller forces: emphasises the importance of local democratic accountability in relation to the Police Force; and calls upon the Government to ensure that before bringing forward proposals there be a comprehensive and independent examination of the need together with full consultation with the Police Service and all other interested parties.
