Rail Connections To And From Wales
EDM number 1620 in 1992-93, proposed by Paul Murphy on 16/03/1993.
That this House calls on the Secretary of State for Transport to initiate an urgent evaluation of the electrification of the main line railways from London Paddington to Fishguard and from London Euston to Holyhead; considers that both South and North Wales have put up with a deteriorating diesel-electric service on the now ageing Intercity 125 trains for too long; believes that European Community support for both the feasibility and funding stages of these projects would in principle be available as they are both trans-national in character; and believes that both BR and the Welsh Office and local authorities should play their full part in bringing to Wales the full benefits of the railways systems similar to those applying to all other important economic regions of Britain and the advanced economies of Western Europe.
