Greek Ecclesiastical Heritage In Northern Cyprus

EDM number 1564 in 1992-93, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 10/03/1993.

That this House is appalled at the damage being done to Greek orthodox churches and monasteries in Northern Cyprus through neglect, vandalism and random or systematic removal or destruction of icons, church screens, wall paintings, liturgical vessels, mosaics etc; welcomes the recovery of the Panayia Kanakaria mosaics from the international black market in art to which many of these objects are directed; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to denounce and do all that it can to stop this looting and desecration of the Greek ecclesiastical and cultural heritage in Northern Cyprus.
