Conduct Of The Chairman Of The Committee Of Selection

EDM number 156 in 1992-93, proposed by Max Madden on 02/06/1992.

That this House believes that the holder of the Chair of the Committee of Selection, and those who chair select committees of the House, should not hold interests, including commercial and business interests, which impinge directly on the duties and responsibilities of those committees; has believed it was wrong for the honourable Member for Shipley, who holds considerable commercial interests, including companies involved in parliamentary lobbying, to be the Chairman of the Committee of Selection, which appoints honourable Members to parliamentary committees; believes such circumstances pose the strong possibility of a conflict of interest; notes the honourable Member of Shipley to resign immediately from the Chair of the Committee of Selection.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
