Conduct Of Department Of Health Towards Dentists
EDM number 155 in 1992-93, proposed by Liz Lynne on 02/06/1992.
That this House strongly condemns the behaviour of the Department of Health towards dentists; recalls that before the general election the Department, because of the unexpected cost of extra work done by dentists under the Government-imposed new contract, arbitrarily announced that dentists were overpaid and had to have a substantial fees cut, so making a mockery of both the pay review body system and the Dental Rates Study Group which exist for such purposes; further recalls that the Department postponed the decision before the election because of the legitimate outcry from dentists and public, only to bring the proposals back just as unfairly after the election; believes that if the fees cut goes ahead it will further reduce the availability of National Health Service dental care; and calls on the Secretary of State to cancel the proposed cuts and to open real negotiations with dentists on how best to achieve the future well-being of dentistry and the widest availability of dental services.
