Religious Freedom In Pakistan
EDM number 1496 in 1992-93, proposed by Frank Field on 01/03/1993.
That this House is shocked by the death sentence given on 2nd November 1992 to Pakistani Christian Gul Masih, by an Islamic court, on the evidence of one man, for 'Blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed'; registers its concern at the previous stabbing, and possible poisoning, of two other believers; expresses uncertainty for the future safety of non-Islamic religious minorities after recent legislation requiring religion to be specified on national identity cards; and calls on the Pakistani Government to ensure the protection of all of its citizens, regardless of religious belief.
