Granada Tv
EDM number 1486 in 1992-93, proposed by Brian Sedgemore on 26/02/1993.
That this House notes with alarm that in 1992, Mr Gerry Robinson, the Chief Executive of the Granada Group made it clear to the Board of Granada Television that the main criterion of success in the future was to be the return to shareholders; notes that one beneficiary of the new policy of shareholder greed was Mr Robinson himself because on 18th September 1992, he bought 299,172 shares at 247p each in Granada Television; notes that Mr Robinson was given an option to purchase 737, 500 shares; notes that Mr Charles Allan, the Chief Executive of Granada Television, approved of the policy of shareholder agreed on 28th August 1992, when he purchased 85,000 shares, at 235p in Granada Television; notes that Mr Allan was given an option to purchase 268,500 shares; believes that Granada's viewers are more concerned with seeing diverse and good quality programmes than with shareholder greed; and regrets that Granada Television has abysmally failed to answer the specific and detailed charges put to them by the Shadow Heritage Secretary, the honourable Member for Cynon Valley, about breaches of the conditions of their licence.
