Charges For London Marathon
EDM number 1441 in 1992-93, proposed by Tony Banks on 22/02/1993.
That this House deplores the decision of the Department of National Heritage to require a fee of ú15,000 from the London Marathon to use the Royal Parks; notes that since its inception the London Marathon has contributed ú2 million to improve London's recreational facilities and has enabled ú50 million to be raised for various charitable causes; draws the attention of the Government to the international significance of the London Marathon and, in particular, its route through historic parts of the capital; believes it is meanspirited for Ministers to demand money which would otherwise go to Londoners direct; and calls for the decision to be rescinded.
