Human Rights In Albania
EDM number 1440 in 1992-93, proposed by George Galloway on 22/02/1993.
That this House welcomes the all party delegation from the Albanian Parliament visiting under the auspices of the IPU, representing as it does a further development of friendly relations between the United Kingdom and Albania; nonetheless records its concern at the continued reports of human rights abuses and shortcomings in the due process of justice in Albania; notes that the former Attorney General has been dismissed from his post and that former President Ramizalia, the country's Gorbachev, who opened up the country to democracy, remains under house arrest and was refused permission to travel to Switzerland for a heart by-pass operation; and calls upon the Albanian Government to truly re-enter the European mainstream, to end the vindictive witchhunting of political adversaries and to respect the norms of European democracy.
This motion has been signed by a total of 34 MPs.
