Resignations Of Welsh Directors Of Education
EDM number 1404 in 1992-93, proposed by Roy Hughes on 16/02/1993.
That this House is shocked by the resignations in the past three months of half the directors of education in Wales after criticising Government education policies; commends the past work of the directors; notes that Mr Geoffrey Drought, Director of Education for Gwent, resigned because he cares 'enough about children not to have anything to do with market place philosophy' and has said that Government education policies have left children trapped in under-resourced schools and fragmented the education services; and calls on the Government to recognise the distinctive character of education in Wales, where their policies are especially irrelevant, repugnant and damaging.
