Deregulation Of Environmental Protection
EDM number 1333 in 1992-93, proposed by Llew Smith on 04/02/1993.
That this House notes that the Secretary of State for the Environment told the Environment Committee on 28th October, 'we have a very extensive regulatory system in place in relation to environmental matters in this country ... I have no intention of dismantling that system' (Environment Committee Minutes of Evidence HC 238-i, Page 19); and contrasts this commitment with the Secretary of State's announcement on 2nd February that he intended to 'repeal where possible' existing environmental regulations; believes this retrograde step of replacing independent environmental regulation with self-regulation will result in a doomsday for the environment; and demands that Her Majesty's Government abandon this senseless proposal forthwith.
