Potato Marketing Scheme
EDM number 1332 in 1992-93, proposed by Andrew Welsh on 04/02/1993.
That this House is alarmed about the European Commission's proposed potato regime which threatens the existence of the Potato Marketing Scheme; notes that the Scottish NFU are strongly opposed to the EC's proposals and want full consultation with the industry before any decisions are taken in the EC and that the EC regime would not control supply or quality and would, therefore, leave the British potato market open to not only market fluctuations but a flood of potatoes of uncertain quality; notes that not all EC member states are in favour of the proposed regime and that while the supply of other arable crops within the EC is being regulated under CAP reforms, the proposed potato regime will effectively stop regulation; and strongly urges all honourable Members to oppose the Commission's proposals for the EC Potato Regime COM (92) 185 Final.
