Electoral Registration In Brent
EDM number 1298 in 1992-93, proposed by Graham Allen on 02/02/1993.
That this House notes the welcome addition of 15,000 electors to the draft register for the London Borough of Brent; congratulates councillor Peggy Quirke for her legal action against Brent's Electoral Registration Officer for failing to comply with the Representation of the People Act 1983 in respect of conducting a house-to-house canvass of those who failed to return a registration form; notes with concern that there are still 10,000 eligible voters missing from the electoral register, principally because the house-to-house canvassing was conducted too late in the year; and calls on the Home Office to issue clear advice to all electoral registration officers on the need for comprehensive house-to-house canvassing as part of compiling an accurate electoral register.
