That this House is appalled at the circumstances surrounding the dismissal of Mr Peter Alan Green by the Greater Manchester Ambulance Service in June 1991; notes that despite his previous unblemished disciplinary record he was dismissed following a dispute in which he was a reluctant participant; is further appalled at the intervention into the proceedings of the Greater Manchester Ambulance Service General Manager who instructed the Chief Ambulance Officer to 'sack' Mr Green, 'as an example'; is outraged that the Director of Manpower upon being advised by the Chief Ambulance Officer that, following an appeal hearing there were no grounds for dismissal in this case said 'Don't cloud the issue with facts. Do as you're told'; is angered that at a subsequent industrial tribunal, counsel for Greater Manchester Ambulance Service were instructed to 'buy out' the case; that this was achieved in the sum of ú15,000 raised incrementally from an original offer of ú4,000; believes this to be an outrageous misuse of taxpayers' money; and further believes that this injustice to Mr Green and others, and the resultant crisis of public confidence in the management of Greater Manchester Ambulance Service, requires the urgent attention of the Secretary of State for Health.
