Children In Hospital

That this House welcomes the Government's advice in 'Welfare of Children and Young People in Hospital' 1991 that 'a cardinal principle of hospital services for children is complete ease of access to the child by his or her parents'; is disturbed by the findings of research carried out by Action for Sick Children into visiting costs to hospital which shows that many families suffer financial hardship as a result of visiting and that provision from the Social Fund fails to address their financial need; and urges the Government to support the campaign 'Too Dear to Visit' carried out by Action for Sick Children and Contact a Family to establish a central fund of an estimated ú5 million new monies out of which hospitals may reimburse parents at the point of need.
