British Coal Redundancies (No.2)
EDM number 1188 in 1992-93, proposed by Eric Illsley on 19/01/1993.
That this House notes that mineworkers are being pressured to accept redundancy terms by the fear that enhanced redundancy terms will be ended after March, despite the fact that the report of the Select Committee on Trade and Industry and the Government on the future of the coal industry have not yet been published; and therefore demands that British Coal postpones any further redundancies until after the situation in the coal industry has been clarified and also ensures that enhanced redundancy terms are extended beyond March, so that no mineworker is pressured into accepting redundancy and British Coal does not close collieries by blackmail.
This motion has been signed by a total of 76 MPs.
