Hearing Impaired Children In Wales

EDM number 1165 in 1992-93, proposed by Ieuan Wyn Jones on 14/01/1993.

That this House notes the findings of the Welsh branch of the British Association of Teachers of the Deaf which show a deterioration in services provided for hearing impaired children following the introduction of the local management of schools regime; believes that the current Education Bill threatens further to undermine special needs education through the further encouragement of schools to claim grant maintained status; further believes that the decision to create smaller unitary authorities in Wales poses questions, as yet unanswered, about the provision of highly specialised support services for hearing impaired children; applauds the efforts made to date by teachers of the hearing impaired in Wales to improve practices and delivery of services; and calls on the Government to make a detailed statement on the future of special needs education within the new unitary authorities.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
