Late Payment Of Debts
EDM number 1164 in 1992-93, proposed by Ken Livingstone on 14/01/1993.
That this House notes that the late payment of debts by large companies continues to be a particular problem; believes that such practices are not only detrimental to small and medium sized enterprises but also have a severe effect on the self-employed; further believes that late payment of debt by large retail companies for agricultural products and supplies not only has an effect on middlemen but also on farmers producing the supplies at source; calls on the Government to take further action in the Budget on the late payment of debt; and further calls on large food retailers to realise that the late payment for certain supplies has a knock-on effect on farmers that produce the supplies and to cease such bad practices.
