That this House is extremely concerned that up to 75 per cent. of the 1,800 jobs at National Savings, Durham office are at risk because of the Government directive that they must be market tested; believes the prospect of losing one's job and/or career prospects is both distressing and bad for morale; notes that the application of the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE) is determined according to the individual circumstances of the service involved, creating uncertainty, for staff at National Savings, as to whether their employment rights are protected; believes the jobs of civil servants should be kept within a reliable career structure within the public sector; and calls upon the Government to immediately reconsider its harmful proposals for National Savings.
