Israel And Palestine
EDM number 115 in 1992-93, proposed by John Cummings on 20/05/1992.
That this House notes that the territories occupied by Israel in June 1967, including East Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights, remain under Israeli control and that UN resolutions 242 and 338 calling for an Israeli withdrawal remain unimplemented despite full support from the international community; further notes that the Palestinians living under occupation are paying a high price in human life and economic and social development and have made clear their opposition to the occupation and their support for self-determination and independence, and that Israel has throughout the occupation rejected UN resolutions, contravened the protocols of the fourth Geneva convention and has flouted international law by, for example, continuing its policy of establishing and expanding settlements on Palestinian land; believes that the time has come for all concerned to take all necessary steps to conclude a comprehensive binding, lasting and just solution, including full Israeli withdrawal and reciprocal recognition of all states in the region including Israel and Palestine; urges Her Majesty's Government to restate its opposition to the Israeli occupation and its support of the relevant UN resolutions and to use its forthcoming presidency of the Community to mobilise the EC to take all steps to demonstrate its opposition to the occupation and its support for the rights of Palestinians to self-determination, and enhance development aid to the occupied areas; and urges Her Majesty's Government to help bring about the conditions necessary for an Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories and a transition to peace for all peoples of the region.
