Rural Economies

EDM number 1142 in 1992-93, proposed by Archy Kirkwood on 12/01/1993.

That this House, recognising the recent low levels of net farm income available to farmers, particularly those operating in hill and upland areas, deplores Her Majesty's Government's recent decisions to cut levels of hill livestock compensatory allowances, terminate the guaranteed price for wool, abolish the statutory nature of the Milk Marketing Board and take powers to abandon the Potato Marketing Board Scheme; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to take urgent steps to underpin the viability of farming enterprises and the rural economies of the less favoured and most rural areas of the United Kingdom.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
