Harlow Wood Orthopaedic Hospital
EDM number 1140 in 1992-93, proposed by Geoffrey Hoon on 12/01/1993.
That this House regrets the decision by Trent Regional Health Authority to close part of the Harlow Wood Orthopaedic Hospital, recognised both nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence in orthopaedic medicine; is concerned about the possible loss of orthopaedic care to patients as well as the risk to staff currently employed at the hospital; believes that this situation has arisen as a direct result of Government reforms in the National Health Service and that the introduction of an internal market in health services combined with underfunding now poses a threat to the future of Harlow Wood Hospital; and calls upon the management of Trent Regional Health Authority, in the interests of patient care, to reconsider its original proposals and to allow Harlow Wood to continue providing the same high standard of orthopaedic care.
