Lancashire County Council And 16 And 17 Year Olds
EDM number 1137 in 1992-93, proposed by Janet Anderson on 12/01/1993.
That this House congratulates the Labour controlled Lancashire County Council on its concern for the plight of 16 and 17 year old young people in Lancashire without either a YT place or any form of income; notes that, as a result of the Council's mail shot campaign, the number of special hardship claims from young people in this category has increased dramatically in several Benefits Agency district offices since the 31st October 1992; further notes that it is the intention of Labour-controlled Lancashire County Council to repeat this exercise at future school leaving dates; and calls upon the government to issue guidance to other local authorities to mount a similar exercise in their own areas in order to alleviate some of the poverty being caused to thousands of young people throughout the country by Government policies.
