Burlington International Pension Scheme

That this House is concerned about the lack of protection given to investors in private pension schemes; deplores the way Burlington International, which went into receivership earlier this year, was allowed to plunder its pension scheme by obtaining loans from the pension scheme which it could not repay and thereby leaving many potential pensioners in Warwickshire and Northamptonshire without the full pension they expected in a way appallingly similar to the Maxwell scandal; and calls upon the Government to take urgent action to prevent employers using pension schemes to keep their ailing companies afloat.
