That this House notes the 50th Anniversary celebration of the first controlled nuclear fission reaction in Chicago, held at the Science Museum on 2nd December; recalls that this secret experiment resulted in the method to produce plutonium, the nuclear element named after the God of Hell, which directly led to the development of nuclear weapons and the killing of over 70,000 civilians at Nagasaki in August 1945; believes that the billions of pounds invested in the nuclear industry worldwide since 1942 have been a scandalous misuse of financial, engineering and planning resources; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to invest future energy research and development resources into energy efficiency, clean coal and renewable energy technologies.
