Relations With The Palestine Liberation Organisation
EDM number 1091 in 1992-93, proposed by Simon Hughes on 15/12/1992.
That this House welcomes the decision of the Israeli Government to repeal its law banning contact with members of the Palestine Liberation Organisation; notes that for too long this policy has been used by previous Israeli administrations to imprison Israeli peace activists and others who have sought a dialogue for peace with the Palestinians; further notes that PLO is recognised by the UN, the EEC and more than one hundred and forty countries as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and has clearly and consistently stated its support of the present peace conference, its desire for a just and lasting peace agreement and the implementation of UN resolutions 242 and 338; recognises the necessity of involving the PLO and Palestinians in creating a just and lasting Middle East peace; and urges Her Majesty's Government to lift its own self-imposed ban on ministerial-level contact with the PLO as soon as possible.
