PARKINSON'S DISEASE
EDM number 1080 in 1992-93, proposed by Liz Lynne on 15/12/1992.
That this House recognises that Parkinson's disease is a severely debilitating condition, which is at present incurable and requires daily, life-long medication; is concerned by the plight of younger Parkinson's disease sufferers, who are below the ages of automatic exemption from prescription charges, yet who have often sacrificed their jobs and independence to the disease, causing considerable hardship to themselves and their families; notes that there are approximately 16,000 Parkinson's disease sufferers in the United Kingdom who are below the age of 65 years; and urges the Secretary of State for Health to add Parkinson's disease to the list of conditions, such as epilepsy and diabetes, which carry automatic exemption from prescription charges, regardless of the age of the patient.
